<h3 id="hikes-title">Hikes</h3>

<p><b>R Mountain</b> (Menan, 3.4 miles, Moderate) The “R” mountain, also known as the Menan Butte is a famously known hike among locals and students that live in Rexburg, ID. It is not really a mountain but an inactive volcano. Hikers will enjoy this landmark with 2 trailheads to explore seeing wildlife and plantlife most of the year. Don’t be deceived by the shortness of the hike and wear flip flops. Sturdy shoes are necessary and you might want to bring water and a sack lunch so when you reach the top you can enjoy the view of the valley.</p>
<p><b>Cress Creek</b> (Ririe, 1.3 miles, Moderate) Head out on this 1.3-mile loop trail near Ririe, Idaho. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 41 min to complete. This is a popular trail for birding, hiking, and running, but you can still enjoy some solitude during quieter times of day. The best times to visit this trail are May through October. Dogs are welcome and may be off-leash in some areas.</p>
<p><b>Big Springs</b> (1.5 miles, Moderate) Located in Island Park, Big Springs is one of the 40 largest springs in the country and is a significant source for the headwaters of the Henry’s Fork of the Snake River. More than 120 million gallons of crystal-clear water flows from the ground daily and the water maintains a year-round temperature of 52 degrees Fahrenheit, perfect for the fish species that live in the area.</p>
<p><b>Mesa Falls</b> (9.1 miles, Difficult) At Upper Mesa Falls, a thunderous curtain of water – as tall as a 10-story building – pours over remnants of an ancient volcanic super-eruption that spewed ash over much of the current US. A mile south, Lower Mesa Falls repeats the performance; the river continually chiseling away at the solidified ash and lava. Some layers are more than a million years old. Today, Upper and Lower Mesa Falls are the last prominent waterfalls on the Snake River to resist human control.</p>
<p><b>Box Canyon</b> (4.3 miles, Moderate) Earl M. Hardy Box Canyon Springs Nature Preserve is a sight to be seen. Being the 11th largest spring in North America, the crystal clear waters are one you must add to the bucket-list.</p>
<p><b>Island Park Trails</b> This small town 55 miles out of rexburg is full of great nature trails, ranging from Targhee Creek to the Thurmon Creek.</p>

<h3 id="camping-title">Camping</h3>

<p><b>Palisades Lakes </b>(First Come/First Served; No fee after fall closure) Palisades Creek Campground is nestled in the Palisades Creek Canyon. Hiking the trails and fishing Palisades Creek and the Upper and Lower Palisades Lakes will keep you busy all day. Trails in this area are in the Palisades Backcountry and are non-motorized; ATV's and Motorcycles are not allowed in the campground. Palisades Reservoir and the South Fork of the Snake River are minutes away from the campground. Palisades Creek flows through the campground which has 5 single units and 2 double units. Full time campground host located on site. Firewood is for sale at the campground.</p>
<p><b>Yellowstone</b> ($20-$40, Open year round after 5/24) Yellowstone National Park offers 12 campgrounds with over 2,000 established campsites. All campsites must be reserved in advance, with the exception of Mammoth Campground which offers first-come, first-served sites from October 15 - April 1. Most campsites are reserved far in advance, so it is recommended that you make reservations as early as you can. All dates are subject to change.</p>
<p><b>Aldous Lake</b> (Free, Open year round) Try this 5.1-mile out-and-back trail near Spencer, Idaho. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 2 h 34 min to complete. This trail is great for birding, camping, and fishing, and it's unlikely you'll encounter many other people while exploring. The best times to visit this trail are June through November. Dogs are welcome and may be off-leash in some areas.</p>
<p><b>Thousand Springs Resort</b> ($20, Open year round) 1000 Springs Resort, located five miles south of Hagerman, includes a large area to camp, views of waterfalls, and geothermal mineral pools. The riverside resort provides the perfect amenities for a summer weekend! There is an RV park, tent campsites, and simple cabins available to book.</p>

<h3 id="swimming-title">Swimming</h3>

<p><b>Rigby Lake</b> Also known as Jefferson County Lake, this lake is located about 12 miles south of Rexburg, just off the North Rigby exit. This lake is great for family recreation featuring swimming, camping areas, and picnic shelters. There are two sizes of shelters to accommodate any size group. Shelters must be reserved in advance and fees are nonrefundable.</p>
<p><b>Packsaddle Lake</b> is located in the Big Hole Mountains on the western side of Teton Valley. The drive to the Packsaddle Lake trailhead and the hike itself provides unparalleled panoramic views of the Teton mountain range.</p>
<p><b>St. Anthony’s Sand Bar</b> The Sand Bar is located on South 3rd East near 1st South. It has been the local swimming hole for more than 60 years and features a shelter, picnic tables, a water slide, a playground, sand boxes, a roped area for swimming and a diving board. A popular place for families, and visitors to cool off in the heat of the summer. There is no charge to use the Sand Bar, but the park cannot be reserved.</p>
<p><b>Heise Hot Springs</b> has a natural mineral hot spring kept at a temperature of about 104 degrees Fahrenheit. It is perfect for soaking those sore muscles and joints, sitting and relaxing, or just warming up from the cold during the winter!</p>
<p><b>Rexburg Rapids</b> offers a safe and exciting environment where everyone, from the young to the young-at-heart, can splash, slide, and soak up the sun. With a variety of thrilling slides, a relaxing lazy river, and interactive water play areas, there's something for everyone to enjoy at Rexburg Rapids.</p>

<h3 id="snow-title">Snowboarding/Skiing</h3>

<p><b>Kelly Canyon Ski Resort</b> ($40-$100 for a day pass, $499-$989 for a season pass) Eastern Idaho's Kelly Canyon Ski Resort is located in the Targhee National Forest near the South Fork of the Snake River. It's an intermediate mountain with a few harder runs, and a definite family feel.</p>
<p><b>Grand Targhee Resort</b> ($599-$1,669 for a season pass) Grand Targhee Resort located in Alta, Wyoming, within the Caribou-Targhee National Forest is notoriously known for having deep powder combined with excellent terrain options. Located near the border of Idaho and Wyoming, Grand Targhee is situated on the west side of the Grand Tetons and is consistently hit by Pacific-born storms that stack up against the Tetons.</p>

<h3 id="zoo-title">Zoos/Wildlife Exhibits</h3>

<p><b>Idaho Falls Zoo</b> (Open 9:30am-5:00pm 7 days a week, $9.00 admission) Home to around 130 species from all around the globe, the Idaho Falls Zoo is known as the “Best Little Zoo in the West.” Accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, the zoo is approximately 10 developed acres and is located inside Tautphaus Park.</p>
<p><b>Bear World</b> (Starting May 11 9am - 5pm 7 Days a Week, $26.95 admission) No vacation to the Yellowstone National Park or Grand Teton National Park region is complete without an adventure into the wild at Yellowstone Bear World, a drive-thru wildlife park. During your visit you will be surrounded by free-roaming wildlife of North America as you drive</p>

<p><b>Pickleball</b> Is available on campus in the Hart Building, as well as in Nature Park, not too far from campus</p>
<p><b>Claire Boyle Skate Park</b> The Clair Boyle Skate Park is a popular spot, actually located inside of Rexburg’s Nature Park. It’s a large area covered with concrete jumps, hills, and bowls designed to help boarders, bladers, skaters, and bikers develop and improve their skills.</p>
<p><b>Frisbee Golf</b> is available in Nature Park, the BYU Idaho Upper playfields, and Smith Park.</p>
<p><b>The Rock Gym</b> ($13.99 for a day pass, or $57 monthly) Super fun climbing gym in Rexburg, Idaho! Includes 27 ft indoor rock climbing wall, bouldering cave, indo boards, slack line, and instruction! Amazing staff and atmosphere. Come see for yourself!</p>
