API Gateway checks if inbound response is any of content type here:

fruster-api-gateway/lib/constants.js

Line 24 in 92ae579

BINARY_CONTENT_TYPES: [

If so it will treat it as binary data.

The content-type:s above are limited and should probably be added and/or configurable.
