From 1badaae968913261b161c93e590cbbaf4f8c2960 Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: Nelson Gomez Date: Sat, 21 Nov 2015 22:47:55 -0500 Subject: [PATCH] Replace "oppressive" with better term "Oppression" is a broad term that may not be wholly appropriate for a code of conduct or moderation policy, and could easily be misconstrued. For instance, users could claim that they are being oppressed by having their comments moderated, as they may feel they are being targeted for their beliefs as well. It could also be interpreted as meaning that only content that attempt to silence others fall under this policy. Using the social justice definition of oppression, this runs the risk of being misconstrued as only applying to those with certain beliefs or qualities, while others cannot be moderated using this justification because of their "oppression status" -- this is too subjective for a CoC which should be easily understood by as many members as possible. For these reasons, replace the one instance of "oppression" with a more specific and broadly accepted description of behaviors that are unacceptable ("prejudiced and dsicriminatory"). --- README.md | 2 +- 1 file changed, 1 insertion(+), 1 deletion(-) diff --git a/README.md b/README.md index f8fb2d8..dc659be 100644 --- a/README.md +++ b/README.md @@ -35,7 +35,7 @@ Although this list cannot be exhaustive, we explicitly honor diversity in age, g **Our community prioritizes marginalized people's safe existence in the community.
