- At least 5 years experience managing a team of engineers
- Experience and excellence in communicating with leaders across the company including product, engineering, and business operations
- A deep understanding of engineering teams and architecture best practices across multiple disciplines (especially machine learning, analytics, data pipeline, core platform, and infrastructure engineering)
- A desire to focus on managing other engineering managers and staff/senior engineers
- Experience and a deep interest in leading initiatives for improving engineering culture, values, process, speed, quality, execution, and delivery
- Experience leading recruiting initiatives, as well as growing and organizing engineering teams
- A deep understanding of how cross-functional product teams work at a software product company
- Experience building and operating data pipelines and warehouses at scale (distributed low-latency processing and native cloud solution experience a plus)
- Experience effectively managing machine learning engineers and projects that deliver results, while clearly communicating ML techniques and process to intelligent non-technical audiences
- Monitor engineering execution and delivery of results across the Machine Learning and Data Platform teams, identify risks, and suggest/drive improvements with engineers and managers
- Ensure the Machine Learning and Data Platform teams are setting aggressive delivery goals and executing quickly, effectively, and healthily towards delivering results
- Monitor performance of individual engineers across Machine Learning & Data Engineering, identify inefficiencies, and suggest/drive improvements with leads and managers
- Build a culture rewarding strategic failure as well as success.
- Develop and clearly communicate a vision, plans, roadmap, and goals for Machine Learning & Data Engineering at Meetup based on product strategy and company goals
- Collaborate with product, strategy, and engineering leadership to set direction of Machine Learning and Data Platform teams’ focus and goals based on company goals
- Oversee and manage engineers across Machine Learning & Data Engineering
- Ensure that engineering managers and team leads are mentoring and managing teams effectively towards results
- Coordinate engineering resources across Machine Learning & Data Engineering and strategically plan for the future with the CTO/VP/Directors, product, and recruiting
- Mentor direct reports in technical and non-technical improvements and growth
- Help engineering managers create and ensure they’re moving along career development plans for direct reports
- Be an engaged part of the company leadership team setting policies, goals, and budgets
- Partner with Employee Experience and lead strategy and vision for recruitment and growth efforts of Machine Learning & Data Engineering
