Tagalog is the national language of the Philippines.
Some notes about words I encountered while talking to Filipinos.
Ang pangalan ko ay Jonas: stating my name is Jonas
- Ang = The (Le/La)
- Pangalan = Name (Prénom)
- Ko = my (ma/mon)
- Ay = is/are/was/were it depends in the verb next to it (suis/es/est/sommes/sont)
Ako si Jonas: I'm Jonas
Ako ay 26 na taong gulang na: I'm 26 years old
- 26 = Dalawampu’t anim
- 26 = bente sais (typically used for money)
- to make it more formal, change « na » to « sa edad »
Ako ay isang enhinyero: I'm an engineer
Ako ay pranses: I'm French
Ikinagagalak kong makilala ka: nice to meet you
Past: NAGlinis: Ako ay naglinis Present: NAGLIlinis: Ako ay naglilinis Future: MAGLIlinis: Ako ay maglilinis
Past: kumain Present: Kumakain Future: Kakain
Example: kakain kayo? = will you eat?
kayo = you (plural) ikaw = you (singular)
Ayaw ko kumain ng balut = I don't want to eat balut
mga: it indicates plurality
- mga aso: the dogs
- mga mata: eyes (the eyes)
- mga magkano?: how much?
- pinakamagandang mga mata: most beautiful eyes
Oo = yes
Okay naman! Salamat! Ikaw ba? means: Okay! Thank you! You too?
- Okay naman ako means I’m okay!
- mabuti naman: it means I’m good!
Ako naman: It can mean, for me or me too or me also depending on the context
tanga: stupid
huwag: no
chica: gossip
- pinaka: most
- pinaka mahal: most love
- ganda: beauty
- maganda: beautiful
- pinaka maganda: most beautiful
Magkano: how much? (money)
pera: money
Ayun: that, showing something with the mouth
ano gusto mo: what do you want?
char: just kidding
Ingat!: Take care!
maligayang bati: happy bday
maligayang bati tita: happy bday auntie
Biyenan: mother/father in law
Mahal (love) kita (you)
- mahal: be expensive
- Mahal na mahal kita: I love you so much
aking mahal: my love
aking pinaka mamahal: my most love
lechon baboi: pork (baboi)
Kaldereta Manok (manok: chicken)
Putang ina = son of a bitch Tangina (shortened) Bobo - dumb Gago - asshole
