Project Lead: @dajanamulaj @Uada0

Mentor: @mattdark

Welcome to OL6, Cohort D! This issue will be used to track your project and progress during the program. Please use this checklist over the next few weeks as you start Open Leadership Training 🎉.

Before Week 1 (Sept 12): Your first mentorship call

  • Complete the OLF self-assessment (online, printable). If you're a group, each teammate should complete this assessment individually. This is here to help you set your own personal goals during the program. No need to share your results, but be ready to share your thoughts with your mentor.
  • Make sure you know when and how you'll be meeting with your mentor.

Before Week 2 (Sept 19): First Cohort Call (Open by Design)

Before Week 3 (Sept 26): Mentorship call

  • Look up two other projects and comment on their issues with feedback on their vision statement.
  • Complete your Open Canvas (instructions, canvas). Comment on this issue with a link to your canvas.
  • Start your Roadmap. Comment on this issue with your draft Roadmap.

Before Week 4 (Oct 3): Cohort Call (Build for Understanding)

  • Look up two other projects and comment on their issues with feedback on their open canvas.
  • Pick an open license for the work you're doing during the program.
  • Use your canvas to start writing a README, or landing page, for your project. Link to your README in a comment on this issue.

This issue is here to help you keep track of work during the first month of the program. Please refer to the OL6 Syllabus for more detailed weekly notes and assignments past week 4.

Draft vision statement

We’re working with the wider Albanian community to provide an open Internet Governance platform to Albanian youth so they can engage in addressing Internet-related challenges at a national level.

Clear statement. I have one suggestion for correction:

... addressing Internet-related challenges in on a national level.

alternatively

... addressing Internet-related challenges in at a national level.

Hi @dajanamulaj, great project! What are some of the most pressing internet-related issues in Albania at the moment? Copyright? Privacy?

Hi @KevZawacki. Thanks a lot! :)
Actually, here in Albania Internet-related issues are almost never discussed at a policy level. This is why we decided to create a Youth IGF from the model of the global IGF. Website: youthigf.al
Copyright is currently a controversial issue for EU countries but not for countries like Albania.
Privacy not that much.
Currently in Albania people are becoming more and more interested in issues like cybersecurity and emerging technologies like blockchain (mostly for its economic aspects like cryptocurrency but the tech community about blockchain as a technology as well)

Some canvas feedback, per homework before call:

  • your goals are all very clear and specific, that's great!
  • how did you choose the numbers for your goals? are they realistic (too high or low)? Since it appears that you are planning a physical event being too high or too low on your numbers can be a big risk.
  • in problem, how do you know there's a need for this and a demand? this wll connect fom problem to how to design the ads you mention in user channels.
  • 15-30 is a very wide range of ages, developmentally, does it make sense to narrow or subset your audience to get started and then grow to the full range?
  • you reference 4 stakeholder groups, but I don't see them defined, maybe for your project it makese sense to either add that as a box, or denote where those people fall in the users/contributors sections.

Thanks a lot for your feedback @brownsarahm. :)

  • The model of our event (multistakeholder & bottom-up) is very new in Albania. The numbers have been allocated considering another similar event that has been done in Albania, the time we have to create the community and our approach in forming the community.
  • There is no demand for such an event or initiative in Albania and this is the first initiative in Albania which tackles Internet-related issues specifically. We're a not-for-profit initiative and we saw a need from 1) our experience in participating in such events outside of Albania and 2) the lack of such initiatives in our country.
  • Since our initiative is a youth-led and youth dedicated initiative, our definition of youth is people from 15-30 years old. But as we have noted in the Open Canvas, our early adopters our targeted audience are students and young professionals with 1-2 years of experience, which means young people 18-25 years old.
  • Actually, we have defined the stakeholder groups in the notes section below the slide. :)
