Please end the mod for the love of Alien and VR :'( #245

Nibre is now working for a major game developer and is unlikely to come back to the mod as long as he is working for them. Someone else needs to work out how Nibre unlocked the legacy VR mode and build a different mod that can improve further the legacy VR mode, or even inject a completely new VR implementation |
Ya, needs a refresh.. Now after all updates and Quest 3, I'm getting glitches on right eye/side. Can see artifacts making it almost motion sickness. |
I'm sure VR can be implemented in an open source release with the help of the Alien Isolation OpenCAGE mod tools (https://github.com/MattFiler/OpenCAGE). We can even create custom maps, animations, and custom scripting. So in theory, it should be possible to create a new VR mod. |
I'm by no means an expert, but I've had a play myself with OpenCage and I dont believe any of the configurations it gives access to are in anyway linked to the built in VR runtime. I believe Mother VR uses a DX11 hook via the DXGI.dll which requires a completely different set of skills and knowledge. |
I now have access to a modern VR headset that isn't an OG Oculus Rift, I've been asked to check out what is preventing Alias from working with MotherVR in my fork of Alias, and can actually do that now. MotherVR not being open-source is a damn shame, and makes things very difficult all these years later. I can try and have a look at how Nibre has been hooking into the Oculus SDK in the game and if it would be possible to replicate it, but with no VR development experience, I can't promise anything stellar |
