Where does Auto-GPT save its files? #411
-
It looks like I successfully saved a txt file with jokes about holidays. But I can't find the file on my computer. It's not in the outputs folder, not on the desktop, it doesn't show up in search. |

You would think outputs would be the obvious place but ¯_(ツ)_/¯ |

Subject: Re: [Torantulino/Auto-GPT] Where does Auto-GPT save its files? (Discussion #411)
Have the same issue, my Auto-GPT is under my /home dir on a Mac, and I got promised a website with content and code but all I got was 2 measly Dall-e mockups too small for a human to read as jpgs and a txt file with two lines it titled siteplan.txt on /Users/auctor/Auto-GPT/auto_gpt_workspace It seems like something stopped working early in the process and all else didn't get saved. How to fix this?

I have been going NUTS because of this. It keeps working in these subdirectories under its workspace except I never see a danged thing written out there, let alone a directory structure. And then there's the fact that the outputs and workspace directories keep getting set to Read Only and something is wrong. I have yet to see it complete a single task properly, though it keeps claiming to. Ok, revolutionary free product, I get it, but this thing costs money to run. We can at least expect that it can tell when it's really writing to disk or not! Is this some kind of virtual environment shenanigans? Can we just give the danged thing access to the rest of our hard drive? |

On Windows it's outputting its files to auto-gpt-workspace for me. The file it said it has created is there. |

Hello, For example : "Make me a web page with write helloword and save it in tmp/ folder" the program will save the files in a folder named tmp which is located in the auto_gpt_workspace folder |

Same question.. also on mac silicon. Can't find the output and was working on it for hours yesterday. Infuriating since you end up looping the AI and it keeps believing it is working. Got it to update a readme text file but was so late and blended with so many other tries that it's completely incomprehensible how it did it |

For Linux (Ubuntu) it is saved here: /home/user/Auto-GPT/autogpt/auto_gpt_workspace Not in the output folder it creates during install where you would think you would naturally look... LOL. |

I just saw that it now created beside of the folder autogpt > auto_gpt_workspace also another folder directly in main folder called auto_gpt_workspace. See screenshot. Would be good to have a documentation, how auto-gpt works on Windows / Linux / Mac with regards to creation / reading / changing of files. Explanation like how the formatting should be to find the folder or if admin rights are needed. the current readme needs to be extended. |

All outputs I've got were in "auto_gpt_workspace" folder. But it only provided one, when there wasn't much to write. I'm unsure why. But in the same task, same string of events, he saved some of the short "notes" but when bigger output was necessary, it was nowhere to be found. |

The workspace folder has moved recently after a Git Pull fyi. Mine now sits in the Auto-GPT folder. EXECUTE_LOCAL_COMMANDS - Allow local command execution (Example: False)EXECUTE_LOCAL_COMMANDS=True |

I have set the flag mentioned above to TRUE. I asked the Auto-GPT create and save a python file. I then asked it to list the results of a task to a text file. It wrote an empty file and no .py files. This is exercise #6 without success |

I am having the same issue. It created two files on the auto_gpt_workspace folder but they just have the goal written on them, No research, no answer. But I also found the script under Logs>Activity file. I expected to have a nicely organized document with research, urls etc, Am disappointed. |

Same here under windows, all work perfectly... only: Auto-Gpt.json file requested and created by me manually containing zero at first, now, i used for only 5 seconds then i stop and i find this contains the same of "env" but differences... certain commands/options added at first, but changed, then in Auto-Gpt.json not find. Then i try to copy the actually used working "env" to Auto-Gpt.json... but i find the same message... about this file not exist||find And now, the --allow-downloads option not change... not find the actual position if exist of anything downloaded... Under Windows 11, inside "users" directory, all under "administration privileges" |
