Support for series X/S controllers?

There seems to be limited support, I plugged my xbox controller into my switch and got it to work once, but when removing it it didn't work after that, I followed a previous discussion where it was suggested that I reinstall the controller firmware and reconnect it to my PC, this works but I think it would be far easier if that wasn't a requirement everytime I wanted to use my xbox controller on my switch
