Gainesville (and many other cities) use a service provider called Socrata for sharing their public data sets. Socrata provides a web API for accessing data sets and various libraries are available here:

https://dev.socrata.com/libraries/

The R and Python language libraries are very incomplete compared to the fully supported Java library yet R and Python are the two languages most data scientists use. Is it possible to create a wrapper for the supported Java API or expand the existing R or Python APIs to provide full query support to data scientists?
