Apparently, los fod impl is better than udfps cuz it has onShow/HideFodView hook, which allows us to toggle dimlayer seamlessly.
Since udfps only partially supports the former one, we'd better kill dim in kernel. This is kinda a hack but it works well, bringing perfect fod experience back to us.
Also implement a panel status check to ensure that the dim layer dies when display is off.

BACKPORT: signal: add pidfd_send_signal() syscall
The kill() syscall operates on process identifiers (pid). After a process has exited its pid can be reused by another process. If a caller sends a signal to a reused pid it will end up signaling the wrong process. This issue has often surfaced and there has been a push to address this problem [1].
This patch uses file descriptors (fd) from proc/ as stable handles on struct pid. Even if a pid is recycled the handle will not change. The fd can be used to send signals to the process it refers to. Thus, the new syscall pidfd_send_signal() is introduced to solve this problem. Instead of pids it operates on process fds (pidfd).

If it is not NULL pidfd_send_signal() is equivalent to rt_sigqueueinfo(). The flags argument is added to allow for future extensions of this syscall. It currently needs to be passed as 0. Failing to do so will cause EINVAL.

How such an extension could be implemented has been very roughly sketched in [14], [15], and [16]. However, this should not be taken as a commitment to a particular implementation. There might be better ways to do it. Right now this is intentionally left out to keep this patchset as simple as possible (cf. [4]).

The "_send_signal" suffix was chosen to reflect the fact that the syscall takes on the job of multiple syscalls. It is therefore intentional that the name is not reminiscent of neither kill(2) nor rt_sigqueueinfo(2). Not the fomer because it might imply that pidfd_send_signal() is a replacement for kill(2), and not the latter because it is a hassle to remember the correct spelling - especially for non-native speakers - and because it is not descriptive enough of what the syscall actually does. The name "pidfd_send_signal" makes it very clear that its job is to send signals.

Processes are a core kernel concept so a syscall seems more appropriate. I wrote in a commit yesterday how there was no ROI on doing this yet somehow I kept on doing it. I blame poor impulse control.
Turns out there was a series of race conditions and bugs that caused this thing to "mostly work" on the first go at it but really hard to debug and get very right.
- Litex UART has a weird undocumented API. You advance the Rx
FIFO by writing

to the PENDING bit, and no other way. However, you determine if there are any more characters to receive by reading the EMPTY bit and seeing if it is 1. The previous method wrote1
to the PENDING bit and then used the PENDING bit to see if a character was available, under the theory that the PENDING bit would be set again if there was still a character. This is somewhat true, except that the PENDING bit is set only some amount of time later which is about comparable to a few CPU instructions, so if you had a fast loop path the PENDING bit would show as cleared and you'd exit, which would cause no further interrupts to fire because the interrupt was effecitvely not acknowledged.

I had the Key Injector IP block in the
sys
domain, which would have its clock cut when the CPU went to sleep, which would cause input characters to disappear when the CPU went into power saving. moving this to "always on" domain fixes that. -
I had the UART PHY in the always on block (so you could send or receive exactly one character), but not the separate UART block (which contained the FIFOs). The UART block would also go into power savings, and this would cause FIFO entries to go missing.

Escape sequences get sent as a burst of characters. The Key Injector originally did not have a FIFO of its own, so it would only remember the last key of the sequence that was written, causing some keys to be dropped occassionally. Adding a 16-deep FIFO to the injector fixes this.

The code I had to read out the injector's results was designed with the "strobe" bit (to indicate that the FIFO had characters) in the same regsiter as the character itself. Thus the loop that 1. checked if the fifo was empty then 2. read and forwarded the character would actually perform two reads from the FIFO. However, this "mostly worked" I think because the FIFO retains the last value that was written even when it was empty, so if only one character was read at a time everything was fine. It only didn't work when you stuffed two characters in there, as you'd drop the first one. Reading the FIFO once and then interpreting the code with a bitmask fixes this.

AESinkAudioTrack: Pause-Burst - a little revisit
Pause-Bursts in RAW format are a red hering in general as they rely on a non-existing API within Android. The implementation opens the audio device but directly pauses it, hoping that internally the system does the needful to keep the sink alive.
Sadly this happens intransparent for kodi, as the reported buffer of the device stays zero. VideoPlayer calls AddPause multiple times in the beginning to sync audio and video properly, while expecting that pause bursts on audio side will fill up the sink (prepare it) and on the same time causing a certain stable or better said: known delay when real data is added later on.
The implementation asks android to pause, but blocks video player for the amount of millis that it wants to add, stating: buffer is already filled.
As we sleep the non-existing data in, we need to "hack" the way back, remember buffer is empty and not filled when first AddPacket is coming. We fake this situation further until the real audio data has reached the same level then we continue normally. Especially the way out is the hack as AE exactly knows that out of a sudden 10 ms of data cannot be added in 0 ms if the buffer is actually full. Though AE nicely gives us some time to get our stuff in line.
But hack stays hack. If someone of google reads this: Please add a method where you expose your IEC Packer so that we can create and enqueue pause_bursts like normal audio. That way these hacks here would not be needed at all.

Dia 9. Yesterday I was not able to come here and do the work, because my familiar duties were more important than that. It felt really interesting to manage the tension that was generated in my experience because of not being able to code yesterday. It is part of the process, to find that balance and realize where and when, how to organize my time, so that I can do what I have to do. But this is a long shot, for a long time, so I will give my best to not be hard with me. There is a lot going on. But todays programming session was amazing, Im working with the api building, with the ability to create kriyas and save them to the db, read them from there, and play them with this information. The whole integration of the system is working as a charm right now, as I better understand how to use nextjs-es native functions such as getServerSideProps better to have a great UI. This was a really good day of work, I feel complete and motivated.

since upscaling only happens if the source video is smaller than your
display. 720p videos aren't hard to upscale at all.
I also wanted a better upscaling filter by default because bilinear
genuinely looks blurry and bad. HOWEVER, I want to retain the default
downscaling algorithm to bilinear because mitchell is apparently too
much for 4K60. Thus, all I have to do is set scale=spline36
and
dscale=bilinear
, right?
Sadly, there's currently a bug (mpv-player/mpv#5727) where if you
specify --scale
to anything other than bilinear, THEN set --dscale
back to bilinear, there will be an additional "bilinear" filter that
increases the GPU usage for nothing! This ghost bilinear filter eats up
so much GPU that it boosts the frame times from <7ms to ~25ms, enough to
make 60FPS footage drop frames. This is playing a 4K60 AV1 video, btw.
With all the considerations above, I don't think the drawback is worth it, so I kept the scaling config at default.
Update debanding config
In this commit, I overhauled my debanding config based on my subjective
opinion and use cases. As always, consult the mpv manual:
https://mpv.io/manual/master/#options-deband to understand what each of
the options do. Though from my testing, only deband-threshold
seems to
make a significant difference, and deband-grain
too if you hate grain.
Basically, my debanding settings are divided into 3 modes: light, medium and heavy. They can be cycled using input.conf.

"Light" is slightly modified from Kokomin's debanding preset for Anime Contrary to most mpv enjoyers, I don't watch anime, but I guess this preset is nice if the video is already high quality and only needs minimal debanding.

"Medium" is derived from Kokomin's debanding preset for "really, really bad streams". I skipped the middle preset because I didn't find much use case for it. I deal with a lot of shitty YouTube streams so I set this as the default. Also I like grain :)

"Heavy" is the actual "for really really bad streams" preset. I mainly use it for terribly bitrate-starved conference/lecture video. Extra bonus, it works quite well in Tom Scott's "Why Dark Video Is A Terrible Blocky Mess" video too!

texlive{,-full}: remove package
It is one (soon two) years behind, and is a big hack: some of the debs are larger than our upload system can handle, and the file lists are generated from the tlpdb in a not so nice way that breaks horribly on every texlive release. Disk space is somewhat of a concern again on the host that fosshost gives us at no (!) cost, and removing texlive-full gives us ~1 GB of space.
The reasonable thing to do would be to set up a separate "termux-texlive" repo, and create a package for every texlive package rather than for every collection as done here. Debian, ubuntu and friends properly creates subpackages. I am not really motivated to do this though, so if someone else has use of a properly packaged texlive and wants to look into it, then that would be great.
Users that want to use texlive should install texlive-installer instead, it anyways allows for more convenient installation (you can freely choose which scheme and which packages to install).
nfsd: allow fh_want_write to be called twice

A fuzzer recently triggered lockdep warnings about potential sb_writers deadlocks caused by fh_want_write().
Looks like we aren't careful to pair each fh_want_write() with an fh_drop_write().
It's not normally a problem since fh_put() will call fh_drop_write() for us. And was OK for NFSv3 where we'd do one operation that might call fh_want_write(), and then put the filehandle.
But an NFSv4 protocol fuzzer can do weird things like call unlink twice in a compound, and then we get into trouble.
I'm a little worried about this approach of just leaving everything to fh_put(). But I think there are probably a lot of fh_want_write()/fh_drop_write() imbalances so for now I think we need it to be more forgiving.

So, a few months ago I was like "hmm there's something weird going on with party pods...", which got me looking into important_recursive_hearers or something like that. I spoke about it in the coding channel and Kyler actually fixed it before I did. But I also caught a similar glitch with Dullahans, so I decided to investigate...
Two months later...
I present to you a partial unfuckening of the Dullahans, in that I made them fully functional once again:
They only hear speech through their head (not sounds, sadly, someone else would have to tell me how to do that because I otherwise really wouldn't know how to do it in a sane way), they speak through their head, runechat-included. When you spawn a Dullahan, you're set to look through the Dullahan's eyes (so from their head), and that doesn't reset when you log off and back in, or admin-ghost and come back in your body. When you're looking through your head, your view will no longer be reset to your body upon entering a locker, which is nice to avoid not being blind while looking through your body. Dullahan heads no longer look completely lifeless and without organs. They have eyes that don't look dead and that even match the player's intended eye color. Dullahan can now properly examine things from their head, which was intended and 100% not functional. Dullahan heads now speak with the proper name of their owner, instead of having a random name attached to it at round-start. Dullahan heads are also now properly named too. Dullahans can now properly whisper, sing and do all these funny things that they were unable to do before. Dullahan whispers will now properly respect the range of the whisper. Dullahans can now succumb in hardcrit by whispering, as intended. This potentially fixes other species that worked similarly not being able to succumb, like abductors, although I didn't test if they normally could, I just know they absolutely will be able to now. When switching from Dullahans to a different species, your old head will no longer stay behind. I also added a proc for species to do some code when we get a ckey login in our mob, which could potentially be useful for other stuff in the future, but it was necessary here as the view is reliant on the client, which we want to ensure doesn't get weird view glitches like having their head's vision overlay while actually being centered on their body.
I also made it so say() now takes a range argument, which is 7 by default, just so things that aren't humans can also whisper and do all those kinds of things. Going with that, there's probably a few more things that will be able to be done better thanks to this, although I haven't tested every edge case with this, but I doubt it will make much of a difference in the future.

There are pros and cons of doing this. Pros are:

Both Fedora and Ubuntu ship this by default. I haven't run the numbers but my guess is that with those two distros the amount of users on Wayland will probably be greater than the amount of users on XWayland.

Wayland touchscreen support, and a bunch of other features that XWayland doesn't have (I'm probably missing a bunch).
Cons that come to mind are:

The main one is that we're still testing X11 on automation, though it is my understanding that Martin has Wayland tests running on the Fedora automation. I'd understand if we'd want to defer this until we have Wayland tests running on the Mozilla automation (bug 1725245), though arguably that hasn't stopped us from shipping X11+EGL (though arguably a smaller change, too).

I think the other annoyance of Wayland is the lack of proper PiP support (bug 1621261): Right now users need to right-click on the PiP Window.
There (most likely) will be others pros and cons (and if we can't come up with others this patch should allow us to gather more feedback in Nightly / early-beta). Thoughts?

Do not allow focus to drift from fullscreen client via focusstack()
It generally doesn't make much sense to allow focusstack() to navigate away from the selected fullscreen client, as you can't even see which client you're selecting behind it.
I have had this up for a while on the wiki as a separate patch[0], but it seems reasonable to avoid this behaviour in dwm mainline, since I'm struggling to think of any reason to navigate away from a fullscreen client other than a mistake.
