I've been having issues with my Zephyrus GA503Q (2021) not booting when on AC power asusctl is installed (it works on battery).
I'm running Fedora 40 but I've had this problem on and off for years now. I just reinstalled F40 yet again a few days ago and it's currently reproducible using 6.11.3 after following the Fedora install guide on asus-linux.org (without any of the optional steps).
Details:
It hangs at various places near the end of the post-grub, pre-login prompt. Often the last thing logged to the boot screen (if I hit escape after the grub menu) is Started virtqemud.service - libvirt QEMU daemon., but sometimes it is other things.
If I unplug my laptop it boots using 6.11.3.
I am also still able to boot to 6.8.5 (the kernel version that comes with Fedora 40); though (and probably because) it boots to niveau even though it seemed to initially work with nvidia.
There are no obvious errors in journalctl -b -1 when I look back. (posted in comment below)
The laptop indicator light shows occasional disk access even once it's unresponsive. Once in a while (not sure how to replicate this) I am able to get ^@ to show up on the display by hitting ctrl-fn-f3 but mostly this does not work.
