Any community project will be maintained as long as there are enough maintainers who feel it needs to be maintained. At the moment there are 4 companies which have maintainers. In the last community meeting, we decided to do dev walk through of the parts in glusterfs and publish them on youtube, to make it easier for new contributors to contribute code. Thus become maintainers in the future.
master branch is deprecated. devel is the new master branch. This is done I believe to remove offensive language like master/slave.
I will let someone from Red hat answer these. |

Thanks @pranithk for responses! I will add my 2 bits as a maintainer outside of Red Hat!
'maintaining' a project happens mostly for 2 reasons - 1. Passion (developers spend time because they like the project). 2. Need (ie, a business need. Or if maintaining a project is part of the job which pays the bills etc). GlusterFS has grown big enough where maintaining it by the passion for the project is very hard, so it will be directly linked to the number of maintainers who gets paid to do the maintenance. Even if its not maintainers, even developers need to be paid because their employer has a need for the project. We @ kadalu.io see the value of maintaining the project because of the possible future market opportunities, and also possibility of working with large deployment base of glusterfs which is there, which we can help to grow as per the need. So, at least for the foreseeable future, we would be spending time and effort to keep the lights on the project.
This is a question to Red Hat product team.
@pranithk answered it. 'devel' branch is the latest, and all changes happen there (it is like what
Again, a question to Red Hat Product management.
About heketi, it is maintained as a separate community, and org, and the team has decided the project is in maintenance mode. So it is expected that there will be slow or no progress. If you are looking at using glusterfs in container eco-system, we are actively developing kadalu project (https://github.com/kadalu/kadalu), which would make it easier. Have a look. I discussed more on these in #2069. We from kadalu see a value in getting those sorted out, as our business increases we will expand the team and we will spend more effort on these. |

Will the glusterfs community always maintain in the future?
Will cephfs replace glusterfs in Red Hat in the future?
What is the difference between glustefs dev branch and master branch?
Red Hat's gluster storage is currently being updated slowly. What is the reason?
