cleaner process prevents unmount

After mounting a drive in veracrypt using auto-mount and using lf to browse and open a file, a process 'cleaner' gets created and I am unable to umount the device or unmount it in the veracrypt gui. It says the device is busy. lsof +c0 /mnt/veracrypt1 shows that cleaner is preventing the unmount. I have to kill the cleaner process to unmount the drive.
