- Apple's Local and Push Notification Programming Guide is the definitive reference for the APNs protocol.
- The "Provider Communication with Apple Push Notification Service" section explains the current (as of this writing) "Binary Interface and Notification Format."
- Appendix A: Legacy Information explains the "Simple Notification Format" and "Enhanced Notification Format." Pushy v0.3 and earlier use the "Enhanced Notification Format." Pushy v0.4 will be the first version to use the "Binary Interface and Notification Format."
