If the color scale were consistent month to month, then you could use this to see how prices change seasonally and decide whether (for example) you'll get a better deal by waiting until August when landlords are more worried about their properties being empty, or choosing in March when there's more competition left.

The downside of a consistent color scale is that it just gets redder and redder, and you lose information. It would be hard to pick a scale that would age well as prices rose.
