Documentation regarding how the plugin works

Is there any documentation for how the plugins and its system works from a bird-eye view? I'm attempting to fork the plugin and modify to mimics Helix instead which behave largely different from vi style so usual key rebinding won't works. Or is my only option is to read the 3k lines of script?
I wanted to know mostly:

• How the key sequence parsing works and its timeout (I want to remove the timeout entirely to be similar to Helix)
• How the script remember the keys and then execute any actions.
• Any variables I may need to know and utilizes.
• How are actions like selections, movements, command, and editing works/implemented.
• If the plugin use any built-in zsh vi if so then anything that the plugin relies on.
