A new v2.8.8 is now available in the master branch for public consumption. There is not much to this release, only a couple fixes, one of which deals with Bookworm and the compilation and installation of the custom FlightAware tcl-tls package when PiAware is set up on distributions based on this version of Debian.
I was hoping to add support for Ubuntu Ubuntu 24.10 Oracular Oriole as well, but I am unable to at this time. As outlined in issue #610, support for this version of Ubuntu is dependent upon the release of fixes added to the dump1090-fa repository which are to be merged into the master branch on the next release of dump1090-fa. I tried a few work arounds much the same as I did to add support for piaware_builder as we await fixes for Trixie/Nobel but doing so was getting more involved than I felt comfortable with when it came to the installation process and maintaining another fork of third-party software. We will just have to be patient at this time.
Project Update
As of late I have been taking online courses involving Angular for work during my free time. I have been learning a lot and the courses have been a great source of information which I can use for this project as well. The better I understand Angular the faster I can get the new portal frontend out to everyone in a more stable form.
Next on the new feature list will be support for Airframes.io as outlined in issue #609. If there are any other feeders you would like to see added let me know by leaving a comment here or opening an issue.
Finally, there was a request for image releases in issue #612. I am curious if anyone would be interested in these being released alongside releases such as this being made. Keep in mind as in the past they would be based on a single distribution such as Raspberry Pi OS and the only packages which will be preinstalled would be a decoder and possibly the portal. If enough interest is shown I will begin making them available in an upcoming release.
A little off topic but project related none the less I suppose would be that tonight I relocated adsbreceiver.net from Hostwinds to a new EC2 instance on Amazon AWS where I have full control over the hosting environment. Not that it is a big deal, but SSL security was tightened up a bit and the site can now be accessed via HTTP/3 and Quic. Now to figure out how to attach a public facing IPv6 address to the instance...
