Welcome to RetiBBS, an implementation of a BBS over the Reticulum Network Stack!

This is solely a personal project at this point, but I welcome anyone to check it out. Currently in an ALPHA state, the code is probably very disorganized and may break or crash for no reason. If you identify a problem, open a Discussion thread. If you can fix a problem, submit a PR. Suggestions and enhancements are welcome, and go to Discussions as well.

Since this is all in a state of flux, being in an alpha state, things may break without warning. There's no versioning outside of commits (currently), so if one piece doesn't work with another, make sure your local codebase is up to date with the main branch.

Hey this is fantastic! I set up a packet radio bbs for a good while, this is very reminiscent of this. Will the client run under windows? And are there any live BBSes running on the public testnets?

Sorry for the delayed response... been down sick the past week.

Yes, the client will run in a Windows terminal, either Command Line or PowerShell. Personally, I generally use Linux, but I do have a Windows machine for work, and have tested the client and server there. The same suggestion to use a Python venv still applies, regardless of the operating system.

I run two instances, Kaizen and Beleth. Kaizen is the reference standard and I try to keep up to date as soon as PRs get merged. So, things like users, boards, and messages may be wiped on updates. Beleth is a bit more slow on the updates, and runs on the transport hub I operate, I try to keep Beleth as if someone was already running a 'production' instance, migrating database changes manually if I can, to keep users and messages across updates. Both servers will announce themselves every 5 minutes or so, and they'll show up so long as you're connected somewhere on the Testnet or the Beleth RNS Hub transport node.

You can run RetiBBS as a packet radio BBS, too! Provided that you stay within rules and regulations dictated by the governing body for RF communications in your area.
