While reviewing Sim behavior for the #3319 wireframe with @matthewtomo, we noticed:

• The Experiment rename field requires only certain characters are used. These include:

  • upper or lowercase letters
  • digits
  • hyphens
  • underscores

  However, the Sim saves filenames with periods in them. When users attempt to 1) rename a file with minor changes (keeping most of the pre-populated Sim filename), it will not save and 2) if users completely rename the file and have a period located within the file name, it will not save.

  Possible improvements need to be discussed and decided before action is taken. Suggestions to consider:

  • adding periods to list of accepted characters for this filename to avoid renaming issues and confusion from users
  • adding to the error message the characters that are accepted

I was just posting on another card with @matthewtomo that I didn't know why periods would be included in these experiment names. I see why now.
