I just sideloaded this into Firefox as a temporary extensions and it worked just fine for viewing KiCad files in GitHub repos. Looking at the code in content.js, I don't see any compatibility issues. It would be awesome if you could package a version and upload to share with those users too. Details at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/developers/
