Build menu item tries to run: compile-only mode?

Right now, if you select "Build" from the pull-down "Run" menu it does the same thing as "Run". It would be nice to have a "compile-only" option, either on that menu item or a separate one. Sometimes you just want to show folks that code will compile. Heck, as long as I'm asking for things, it would be nice to have a "Build as library" feature so that main() is not required.
