App Kit Logo #197

haha, i love this :D i've been thinking of something based on the construction tomster, but a new one might work too |
i love it, hopefully @wifelette is alright with it |
haha pretty hilarious. not sure what liberties we have with using the ember hamster. Maybe we could do something with a hamster wheel? Sort of implies moving parts, still relates to hamsters, etc |
The inspiration came from EAK's massive grunt pipline and iPod earbuds cable mess. ;) |
regardless of if this ends up being the official logo, i'm definitely On Fri, Sep 27, 2013 at 3:36 PM, MajorBreakfast [email protected]:

One concern I have about this is that it couples the long-term project logo with the tech you happen to be using now. |
maybe just a tomster juggling many random things? |
@thomasboyt Go for it ;) It's all yours. It's a maskot, not a real logo anyway :) We also need something simpler for a real logo. My first idea was a cardboard box with an EAK label on it. But that's a bit lame... any ideas? |
@MajorBreakfast nah that sounds good 👍 |
Perhaps the tomster lifting weights or working out. The idea being ember app kit "does the heavy lifting". Another idea: tomster in a front of a symphony wearing formal black tie on a conductor's pedestal with a conductor's wand. The idea being "ember app kit conducts the orchestra" |
^^' idea two could be mistaken as a magic wand :) |
@MajorBreakfast yeah, didn't think of that. Put a wizard hat on the little guy and you got trademark issues with Fantasia. |
Howdy folks— Apologies for the delay in responding to this. Unfortunately, the Tomster is one of the bits of brand identity that we're very careful about. With the exception of things I might not know about, all the existing Tomster variants you see out there were either produced in-house, or designed with core team input and specifically approved. The Tomster is owned and enforced, and this is a good thing for Ember, as it keeps us and everything we do in line with the official look and feel :) I think a Tomster like this (as in, for this project, not in this different style though :p) would be awesome to design. That said, I'm currently paying for the design on all of them personally, and right now am spending some cash on new Tomsters for the release channels (beta, canary and release). If anyone else feels like bankrolling, please get in touch via email, happy to have assistance :) If not, I'll just add this to my growing list. |
i still love this logo |
@stefanpenner found the issue today and loved it. @MajorBreakfast nice work! |
I should mention that I'm working with the designer on creating an easy way for people to submit requests to commission specific approved Tomster variants :) It's surprisingly more affordable than you might think. I don't have designs for the page for it yet, but the forms and pricing and all that is in the works. So things like this should be easier to make reality soon. Fingers crossed... |
Today I had the idea for a logo. It's been a very long time since I painted something, so it's not nearly as good as the real tomster logos. But the idea is there. :) What do you think?
Maybe the artist who did the real stuff could have a go at an EAK logo :P
