You also might be interested in DBItest [1], a package that specializes on testing DBI backends. To use it, you need to add a file to tests/testthat, e.g., test-DBItest.R, with the following contents:

DBItest::make_context(ODBC(), list(dsn = "test"))
DBItest::test_all()
