Error when building visit3_4_1.linux-x86_64-fedora40-beta.tar.gz

I am trying to build VisIt fro source, visit3_4_1.linux-x86_64-fedora40-beta.tar.gz using the build_visit3_4_1 script.

The OS is Fedora 40 updated. Current kernel is 6.9.12-200.fc40.x86_64.

The first error to occur is

Looks like you are doing a default build_visit which looks like it uses Qt5. Any chance you could try Qt6 instead?

Apologies but when you re-start build_visit, its best to start from a fresh, clean directory state...at least when building core libraries like Qt. Now, if you do that, its still likely to fail at the same point but I do want to ask that you please try that first.

Thanks for adding the Qt6 CMake error and output logs...nothing suspicious in those. I mean, yes, tests for certain functionality fail but that is normal when its probing the system to discover what features to enable. Both files do not suggest any issues to me.

That said, looking at the error log from build_visit itself (and the attempt to CMake Qt6), I see...

I am focusing specifically on the Failed to run syncqt, return code: 2 error. I think it could mean a problem with PERL on your system. Do you have perl? Does it know where to find it? Does reviewing search from Google help?

There is a thread in issue #19563 with new build scripts and build options etc. We were able to build visit on Fedora 40 and it works
great.

@dcellis1950 You mentioned originally the visit3_4_1.linux-x86_64-fedora40-beta.tar.gz tarball. This is a binary distribution tarball created for Fedora40. You install it with the visit-install3_4_1 script. Did you try installing? Just wondering if there were problems with its usage that required your attempt to build Visit from scratch with the build_visit script?
