Help Needed: Evaluating Total Dislocation Length Over Entire Simulation Time in VisIt

Hello VisIt Community,

I am a new user of VisIt and currently utilizing it for post-processing Paradis Dislocation Dynamics files.

I have created a plot where the variable burgerID is visualized with a filter applied. To calculate the total dislocation length, I am using the Query option with "Total Length". This works perfectly for individual time steps.

As shown below, my simulation generates a set of files representing the entire simulation time series:

My goal is to evaluate the dislocation length over the entire simulation time. However, I haven’t been able to find an option in VisIt to process all the time steps in one go and obtain the total length across the entire time series.

Could anyone please guide me on how to accomplish this?

@vikramroybarc apologies for lack of understanding but do you want...

• a single number returned representing the total disolocation length sumed over all time steps
• a curve plot of the variation of dislocation length on each time step as a function of time

For the first way, you want to use the sum_over_time() expression.

For the second way, you want to use the Do Time Query option of the Total Length query by checking the box for it, adjusting time parameters as necessary and then hitting the Query button.

I’m interested in the second option you mentioned, but instead of generating a curve plot, I’m looking to extract numerical values, similar to what is displayed in the Query box in the first image.

Could you please help me find the option or method to achieve this?

I figured this thing out using visit cli and python.
