Disable display audio device when display is "powered off" in BD

BD allows a display to be disconnected, or "powered off" via a switch in the menu (usually on the menu header). However when a display is switched off, the audio output is still present in macOS.

Any way to also redirect the audio to a fallback device (e.g. internal speaker) like if a display is physically disconnected, even when the display is switched off in the software?

Tried to go through all current options in BD but haven't see anything related. So does GitHub issues and discussions.

Hmm. This did not come up until now but it can indeed be an issue. The audio device can't be disabled but the app could programmatically change the default output device (I think), however if there are multiple devices it is not clear which one the app should select. Not entirely sure how to proceed with this. :) I think most users simply don't select a display as default audio device that is disabled from time to time (since that obviously means loosing audio which might not be the intended effect).

I’m using this way because I share this display between my laptop and desktop. Thus when I use both at the same time, sound of desktop would come out of the display, while sound of laptop should come out of internal speakers, but is still routed to the display.

What I currently do is that I simply use AirPods if I need to hear from the laptop, as it takes a few tries to let macOS to get the right priority between different audio outputs. Display is connected to a TB dock so unplugging the display is a bit tedious.

Kudos to you integrating so many features in BD which makes it almost the BetterTouchTool of everything AV 😝
