I'm a leader writing on behalf of a student at my hack club. After I (leader) spent the pizza grant on cakes Imelda decided to draw a cupcake! She is 12 years old and had never coded before and was very unfamiliar with computers (typing, logging in etc). Imelda has come a very long way through no shortage of hard work. She's genuinely discovered her love for coding, which is exactly why I started a club. I've taught her about variables, randomness, turtles and loops and she has written all the code herself. Should she receive a Blot the entire club would benefit in building it together.

  • [✅] I have read the steps to getting a blot
  • [✅] I have read all the submission requirements and follow them
  • [✅] I am submitting art that...
    • [✅] is algorithmically generated (will meaningfully change each time the program is run)
    • [✅] is your own work that is not copied from somewhere else
    • [✅] is drawable through the editor(does not use outside tools)
    • [✅] doesn't call Math.random() (See the documentation on randomness)
    • [✅] is drawable on Blot itself (doesn't have lines overlap more than 5 times)
      • [✅] Doesn't overlap lines more than 5 times
      • [✅] Fits in the working area of 125x125mm
      • [✅] Doesn't rely on colour to look good

Hello! Sorry it's been so long. The main reviewer has been swamped lately, so I wanted to give you a few hints so you have the best chance of getting a blot.

I love how you're helping her through making her own blot program! I remember just getting starting with JS when I was 12 and it was super exciting! I'm not the main reviewer, so I can't say for sure, but I suspect that she (or someone) will have to spend a little more time working on this project to get it fully "blot-worthy". Generally, people spend ~15-20 hours on a project to have it get up to that bar. I definitely don't expect her to code at the same level as a 17yr old, but I think if she spends a bit more time she could have something even better!

I also love the cupcake theme :) I made some cupcakes for my blot project (PR #950, viewable here). I think you could add a few things to make it even better (that are hopefully within the skill-level):

  • Adding some more toppings would be super fun! (candles, a cherry, etc.)
  • Could you add lines to the base of the cupcake to represent the crimps in a cupcake wrapper?
  • Figuring out the turtle.arc() function can be a bit tricky, but it really helps with making the frosting look a lot more realistic. She should try figuring it out!
  • Maybe you can figure out some kind of background decoration?

I'm excited to see where she goes with this, and I really hope you can get a blot for your club! I'm excitedly awaiting my own blot for my club :)

Added curved cupcake case as requested

This PR is being closed due to blot's sunset as a YSWS program. Read the pins of #blot for a further explanation. Sorry for the sudden change - you can check out the other YSWSes that are currently open at ysws.hackclub.com though! They're pretty awesome
